Sunglasses (informally called “shades” or “sunnies”) are a form of protective eyewear. Typically designed to prevent bright sunlight and high-energy light from damaging or discomforting the eyes. Ophthalmologists recommend sunglasses to avoid the direct UV rays of the sun, which can affect your eyes. I strongly recommend using sunglasses. Seeing how shiny my sunglasses are all the time, I have been asked many times how I take care of my sunglasses and how I keep my glasses so clean. So I thought, let me share the right way to care for and clean your glasses. So hope you find this article on “How to maintain and take care of your Sunglasses” helpful.

Journey of Sunglasses
In the early 20th century, sunglasses were also known as sun cheaters (an American slang). Sunglasses have been a popular accessory, especially on the beach.
Sun glasses first became fashionable in 1929 when Sam Foster began selling protective shades on boardwalks on the Jersey Shore.
Yes, it took time for the masses to adapt and accept it and for it to become a trend. It was glamorized by stars, and Hollywood stars were pioneers in making it a style statement. It then flourished across the globe and made sunglasses a chic and classy fashion accessory.
In the era of pop music, Hollywood and several artists introduced their followers to sunglasses. From wearing the oversized shades to the eye candy sunglasses, they made it look uber cool.
Until today, every generation definitely fancies sunglasses.
There’s absolutely no doubt that each one of us, as a young kid, loved wearing our parents’ shades, and we all have a Polaroid framed.
As we grew from kids to teens to becoming adults, at each stage we started collecting sunglasses and had a whole range from classics to funky to geometric ones and more.
The count surely will never stop.
Love for sunglasses
What could be the most annoying thing for a person who loves their sunglasses? It is for sure seeing fingerprints in their shades or seeing the nose plugs worn out, am I right?.
My mom has a fetish for sunglasses, and every time she goes shopping or traveling, or it’s her birthday, she needs a new pair of sunglasses. I always asked; mom, Why do you have so many sunglasses? She said, ,I like to cover my eyes and avoid people from looking at me directly.
I then realized, “Oh wow, Mom is fearless, and I am going to add more to her collection and follow her as well by wearing sunglasses more often and showing some ‘shade’.
Maintaining sunglasses
The theme of this blog is how to maintain and take care of your Sunglasses. My fellow lovers of sunglasses, this one is for you.
The biggest flex for a sunglasses lover is in how they maintain them. As a blogger, it is my duty to make your life easy and let you stay in style always. Those who consider maintaining sunglasses to be a lot of hard work will be surprised to read how easy it is. Over time, I realized that, well, it actually is as easy as blinking your eye.
The most problematic thing about wearing sunglasses is that the sweat on our face can get attached to the frames of the sunglasses and can be damaged. The scariest thing is dropping shades on sand or on hard ground, causing scratches on the lens or breakage.
Do’s and don’ts for maintenance:
Like I stated earlier about how I learnt from mom so much about sunglasses, in the same way, with much trial and error, I learnt the art of their maintenance.

I am stating below how you can keep your sunglasses absolutely neat and long-lasting from my experience and knowledge. So simply scan with your eyes the details given below.
So what do you do?
- Always use an approved lens cleaner and not harsh detergents or liquids to give a clear vision.
- Try to avoid leaving your sunglasses in the car, as they can be damaged.
- You’re wearing it at the beach, so be careful not to allow it to fall on sand, and use a nice case to protect it.
- Leave it to dry after use for accumulated sweat to dry up and to avoid the sides of the frame from withering.
- Keep it safe in the case or pouch provided to avoid damage and make it worth investing.
- Always use a microfiber cloth to clean the lens and the nose plugs to make a long-lasting accessory.
- Get it regularly re-adjusted, especially the sides and nose plugs; due to regular usage, it can loosen or break.
- Try and stop losing your sunglasses and be more mindful of where you keep them.
What not to do with your sunglasses
- Don’t plug it over your head, as it would damage the frame or cause it to expand the sides.
- The hem of the shirt is surely the easiest way to clean, and denim fabric is a big no, so that’s definitely not a good habit.
- Try and avoid paper products like a tissue or a wipe to clean the lens, as paper can damage the lens.
- Don’t use too much water to clean it, although hygiene is important.
Stay in style with sunglasses.

The sun gives us vitamin D, and that’s a fact. But the rays are definitely harmful to the naked eye. While you take a walk, or soak yourself in the sun to get a tan, or simply avoid dust, or to avoid people, just wear your sunglasses and slay kings and queens.
Sunglasses are always a style statement; you can never go wrong with them.
Until next time, you can prepare yourself and protect your sunglasses before you get all the attention. I will be back with more interesting topics, but for now, let me show off my sunglasses.
